Maximum-Likelihood-Based Location, Orientation, Transmitted Power, and Antenna Beamwidth Estimator Utilizing the Angle-of-Arrival and Received Power for Spectrum Sharing at Millimeter Wave Bands

The fifth-generation (5G) system utilizing millimeter wave is available in Japan, but more bandwidth demanded by the mobile phone operators to accommodate demand for high data rate. Allocation of vacant spectrum impossible due past allocation other radio systems. For example, 24.25-27.5 GHz has been allocated fixed wireless access (FWA) and license exempt small power communication Japan. Although Japanese government considering a part band 5G under sharing scheme, coexistence design quite challenging unavailable operation such systems form database study. this purpose, paper introduces maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE), which utilizes angle-of-arrival (AoA) received line-of-sight (LOS)/diffraction paths as well map simultaneously estimate these unknown parameters via sensing. It was applied measurement obtained from sub-urban environment where commercial with similar operational operation. Its performance evaluated different number receiver (Rx) points. results showed that parameter estimation accuracy proportional distance orientation errors 45 m 5 deg were achieved at 90th percentile 40 Rx Furthermore, prediction effective isotropic radiated (EIRP) decent, albeit slight underestimation beamwidth.
